Later, this building found itself in the centre of Altenmarkt and was renamed the„Brother’s House“. It then became a retirement home. When the new retirement home was built in 1970, the „Brother’s House“ was turned into the local history museum and in 1998 it was renovated and expanded.
There is a farmhouse parlour, a smoke kitchen, the wonderful nativity scene, a national guard room, religious artifacts, a school room, a bathroom, a traditional wear display and the „Perchten“ room with local mythical creatures, all of which offer a fascinating look into the life and culture of our predecessors in their alpine homeland.
One of the jewels of this local history collection is the "Grundner Nativity Scene" which is over 250 years old. This diorama was built on an old weaving loom and has multiple moving parts that tell the story of the Nativity and charms young and old visitors alike.
In order to display the larger farm implements and machines, the Dechantshof Barn was opened in 1981, making a much larger area for the local history museum and providing a stage for traditional dances etc. Special Exhibition: Protestant Eviction 1731-1732 – the mass migration from the Ennspongau valley.
