Over 4,500 metres of ascent and 123 kilometres to challenge your muscles. The Stoneman Taurista will take you to breath-taking panoramic scenery: green Alpine pastures, rustic mountain huts and the highest summit crosses of the Salzburger Sportwelt.
Designed for three stages, the Austrian Stoneman starts off from Altenmarkt taking over the Sattelbauer and the Hochgründeck. Then the 1,768 metre high Rossbrand is waiting for you. With an amazing panoramic view over 150 important Alpine peaks, such as the Dachstein, Bischofsmütze and the Hohe Tauern with the Großglockner is the reward. Heading south the Stoneman Taurista passes the idyllic Alm the Oberhütte. Taking you over the Emperor’s Pass, at 2,110 metres to cross the Tauern, the route then takes you past the Johannes waterfall and the picturesque Gnaden huts back to Altenmarkt-Zauchensee.
Due to construction work between Flachau and Wagrain, the checkpoints Grießenkar, Edelweiß Alm and the Bikepark in Wagrain are not part of the route this season. The alternative checkpoint is via the Ginausattel north of Wagrain, which takes you up to the picturesque Hochgründeck at 1,800 metres. Then head back through Eben in Pongau to take you back onto the original route.
BEWARE: NOTE ABOUT THE ROUTE
On the stage Hochgründeck to Rossbrand: between the Heinrich Kiener Haus and Eben there are two construction sites, where you might have to wait for a little while. Beware of construction site traffic and reduce your speed accordingly on this part of the route.
Near the Rossbrand, there is another construction site between the Rossbrandstraße and the mast. The route can be ridden, but please take care.
Wood logging work may cause a small delay on the Rossbrand stage, between Strauchmoos and Mandlberg. You can ride on the old route and new “Chicken Line” to the Mandelberggut.
Most riders are so thrilled after their ride - they take the handcrafted Stoneman trophy home. It is designed by Stoneman founder Roland Stauder himself and carries a stone of the regional bedrock in its centre.
The Trophy – made of the striking wooden pedestal, the iron, laser-cut Stoneman figurine and a stone, struck off the bedrock of the Tauern – is just 40 € .
You already earned the trophy with your first Stoneman? Collect the Taurista-Stone for just 20 €.
