Freeriding in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee

In Zauchensee, freaks and deep-snow novices will find the best conditions for practicing their favorite sport during their winter vacation. Three variants are signposted: Flachauwinkl, Roßkopf Ost and Gamskogel Ost.

Danger-free powder turns can be tried out in many places in the ski area when you leave the groomed piste. For freeride and deep snow fans with more experience, the Zauchensee lift company has set up specially signposted variants:

The cracks are drawn to the Schwarzwand with its knolls, hills, clusters of trees and rocky outcrops. The east descent also guarantees adrenaline kicks - from small rock jumps to 7-meter jumps, it's all there. If the above ski routes are open, please refer to the current winter sports report.

The two ski schools in the hotel village of Zauchensee offer guided deep snow tours with an introduction to avalanche awareness on request. Look forward to ski routes with great panoramic views, untouched deep snow slopes, numerous tree runs, mogul slopes and many more off-piste experiences!

The equipment for a safe powder experience

Avalanche beepers, shovels and other special equipment are absolutely necessary and ensure maximum safety on ski tours and in powder. Tip: At the two valley stations Weltcuparena Zauchensee and Highport Flachauwinkl you can test at special devices whether your avalanche beeper works properly!

Safety is paramount!

Inform yourself about the snow safety and avalanche situation before a freeride tour. Knowledge of avalanche awareness, optimal equipment and following cut-off instructions can be life-saving.

Important note

All prepared slopes and the three designated ski routes in Zauchensee are checked and controlled by the mountain railroads. Outside these slopes you move at your own risk in unchecked or unsecured terrain!
